NEWS FLASH Kylie Ritter and I have helped Janet campaign Solykke Bikini Chocolatini (Marbella) who, in just 2 months of having been shown in Queensland, and much to our delight has just become the first Spanish water dog in Queensland to be officially titled as Australian Champion. I have bred and shown Dogs since 1994. I have been given the opportunity to own and compaign my first Spanish Water Dog -Solykke Toledo Real- from Janet Cameron who imported a male and female from Zorrazo kennels in Croatia in 2019, after having the pleasure of first seeing the breed in the World Dog Show in Milan,Italy in 2015. Kylie Ritter and I are also helping Janet to compaign Solykke Bikini Chocolatini. As we see it today, the breed is described as athletic, focused, natural and rustic. The history and working aspect of the Spanish Water Dog should be taken into account, particularly in the areas of breeding and showing.

The Spanish Water Dog, Retrieving, Herding and Guardian Breed. The Spanish Water Dog is a medium sized breed with a woolly textured coat that is curly when short and can form cords when left to grow, they are a faithful and hard working breed. They can be shy to new people so keep them socialised At Helyeh Spanish Water Dogs we strive to breed for temperament and confirmation to suit both the show and sports ring and will be there to help new owners of the SWD along the way. Our girls compete in the show and sports ring in a variety of sports including, Agility, Obedience, Rally, Scent Works, Tricks and currently training in Dancing With Dogs, Tracking and Yard Dog. The Spanish Water Dog breed dates back several hundred years and has its origins most likely in Turkey from where it was imported into Spain as a general purpose sheepdog and guard. It is also used sometimes as a gundog, and is skilled at retrieval from water. The SWD has strong genetic links to other ancient water breeds such as the Portuguese Water Dog, the French Barbet and the Irish Water Spaniel. The SWD is diligent, loyal, affectionate, and intelligent. They have very strong natural herding and guarding instincts, leading them to become the self-appointed guardians of their homes. Both parents are of excellent temperament, have had the requisuite health checks and are available to meet prospective familes.
