MAKETAWA

We have been breeding quality English Springer Springers for almost 40 years,with emphasis on temperament, soundness, balance and of course type.

During this time we have bred and/or owned in excess of 50 champions, many have left a lasting legacy, their bloodlines behind winning stock of today.

We owned the first NZ Grand Ch of the breed in NZ (Yankton Star Attraction) and he was great grand sire of the second, whose parents we bred (Aust & NZ Grand CH Ngaruru Dont Stop Me Now).The trio of bitches Aust/NZ Champions, Maketawa Venus di Milo, M.Mona Lisa & M. Wind Chimes have left their mark on the breed. CH & Field Trial Ch Maketawa Memento was another to remember

Notable winners of the recent past include Ch Mewsdale All You Want, bred by and co-owned with Sandra & Geoff Gillingham, and Ch Maketawa Sweet Dreams,(West/Cavallo) who had several specialty wins to her credit.

THORNFIELD

We are thrilled to announce the safe arrival of Willow's puppies!

At Thornfield we aim to bring out the best in every dog we own. Our dogs compete successfully in retrieving, agility, tricks, obedience and endurance tests, from local events to National competitions. Our field-bred (working lines) English Springer Spaniel, Em (Wrangham Cathy Earnshaw RRD ADX JDM GD SD) has been our introduction to the breed and has been competitive in both retrieving and agility as well as proving herself in the field. We are enjoying her daughter, Ginny (Thornfield Empower AD JDX TKS) and granddaughters Luna (Thornfield Gin Bijou JDX GD TKS) and Delphi (Thornfield Tanqueray Gin) journeys as they follow in her footsteps. We are also the proud home of Australia's first and only ANKC Agility Champion Dalmatian, Ziggy (AG CH 600 Yarrowfell High Society CD ADM ADO JDM JDO2 GD SD ET).

Occasionally we have field-bred English Springer Spaniel puppies available that would suit hunting, retrieving, field trial, agility, obedience, tracking or active family homes. Above all our dogs are our well-loved companions.

Morekos Dogs compete in the fields they were originally intended for, we do not own dogs purely to breed. All our dogs prove they are worthy of breeding first and we have the trophies, certificates, careers, media footage & demonstrable abilities to show for it.

ALL our dogs are DNA profiled/health tested prior to breeding. Selected for working abilities, sound temperaments and healthy longevity. Producing quality not quantity.

Pups are raised in a clean home environment, exposed to everyday life events are regularly handled including Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), correctly exposed to sounds, sights and tactile environmental conditions appropriate for age specific socialization. We build hunt & prey drives and initiate crate training, sleeping pups individually by 8 weeks of age, preparing them for separation from the litter and building confidence when required to be alone.

TRUESPRING

Home to the top winning English Springer Spaniel - SUPREME CHAMPION BIRCHLANDS CROWN ROYAL (IMP NZ) Brock is co owned with Phil and Marie Merchant and Emma Parker of Clanach ESS. Renee and I joined this wonderful breed with the guidance and assistance of Marie - obtaining Kiwi - Ch Birchlands Crown Choice (IMP NZ) in 2010. Some time after this we began searching for our 'girl' so bring Truespring to fruition. We were eventually able to do this with Brocks daughter - Harper 'Ch Glenkinchie Royal Choice' who obtained her title as a Puppy. Harper is also co owned with Phil, Marie and Emma. Another of Brocks daughters joined us - Blanche 'Kinsheran Carte Blanche' who has produced our very first litter of ESS in December 2017.

CATHATINA

The Cathatina prefix was first established in the 1980’s. In 1987 the first litter was breed producing a lovely multiple best and class in show winner with others to follow.

Breeding for the conformation of the show ring but never forgetting to focus on temperament, health and soundness. Aiming to produce not just for myself a Springer that is an absolute delight to own but for other also.

Now located in the Lockyer Valley Region approximately 58km from the heart of Brisbane.

BIRCHLANDS

I began breeding and showing english cocker spaniels, before moving to english springers which I have had since the eighties. Birchlands is a family kennel where the dogs are always pets first; litters have been few and far between to maintain a strong bitch line and produce quality stock. Today there are Birchlands springers being shown and winning in NZ and Australia.

TRENZALORE

Better known as The Daisy Hill Menagarie & for being a safe and happy retirement home for springers, Trenzalore Springer Spaniels is a prefix that has a lifetime of association with the springer spaniel, with our first bitch being a working ESS called Joy (Sharneyford Patches) in the early 1980s. The gift of the beautiful B/W/T bitch in 2008: Sabrina (Ch Fraelighte From ADistnce) started the obsession with the 'eyebrows'. So in mid 2014, in conjunction with Sharyn from Larona ESS, we welcomed two new 'eyebrow' kids from Three Ponds Valley ESS in Poland: Angel and Anthony, both black & white tricolours. I added the fabulous Welshie to the mix in 2009 with Frodo coming to the sunshine to retire, but the lure of the ring proved too much for him and he achieved his Neuter Title in Oct 2014. Currently ESS Bronte (Ch Larona Wing And A Prayer) and WSS Stevie (Ch Ricochez Gerwyn Saffir (AI)) have retired from the neuter classes after both having wildly successful neuter careers. We also have Harlow the Tri-colour ESS finally titled in early 2022 and is having some time off so we have borrowed Piper (WSS) from Goldmaid for a little showcation.

Our plans for 2023 are like most everyone else's - just wait and see!

BRIABRAE

We are a Mother/Daughter-in-law team residing in both the South West of WA (Kim) and Thornlie, WA (Gemma). Our aim is to breed according to the breed standard and continuing a successful show career with 'the crew'.

We breed the English style of English Springer Spaniels, focusing on correct conformation and temperament. All our dogs have a Comprehensive DNA screening, an Eye Specialist Certificate of Examination and are Hip and Elbow Scored.

We're only a small shower/breeder and our dogs are all much-loved family members. We do from time to time breed a litter and some puppies are available on Limited Registration to only the VERY BEST loving & forever homes.

GLASTONPARK

Glastonpark Kennels is owned by Stephen & Lesley Sapsead. We specialize in breeding Working English Springer Spaniels.
All our dogs are from the finest Imported and Australian Working blood lines.
It is always our aim to breed biddable companions, whether they are used in the field or as a great companion for country walks.
Our dogs compete regularly in Field Trials around Australia and have performed very well.

We have several litters each year and breed both Liver/White & Black/White puppies. No litters are planned that do not have the potential to produce English Springers for the future of Glastonpark Kennels. Our selections for breeding are made on strict criteria as we breed for a certain type and temperament.

WYTCHER

In 2018 we imported Barecho Custom Made (Björn) and Barecho B Witched (Annika) bred by Helene and David Björkman in Sweden. We started showing in July 2018, both dogs attained Australian Champion in 2019 and have picked up multiple awards since, including a RUBIS for Annika in 2022.

Annika and Bjorn are live-in family! In 2019 they had their first litter of seven, with Arvid and Anja remaining with us under our prefix - Wytcher Angel Eyes and Wytcher Dancing Queen respectively - now both Aus Champions.

Annika and Björn gave us the beautiful B litter of 10 in 2021 - the irresistible Wytcher B Dazzled ‘Beatris’ was our keeper, with Wytcher B Spellbound ‘Lily’ moving to Darwin (a rockstar already with 5 BIS), and Wytcher B Starbright ‘Bella’ moving to Victoria.

We intend only to breed to maintain a springer as part of our family life.

BAYSPRING

Our aim at Bayspring is to produce sound, healthy puppies with that soft, effervescent temperament and wanting to please attitudes of these gorgeous dogs. Breeding stock will have all the required health checks.

We have had English Springer Spaniels since 1985 after our last English setter passed away. We have been fortunate to have bred two litters of healthy, happy and much loved puppies from our Arthur and Lola and are excited to use Arthur over our very special girl, Jazz, later in 2024.

We continue to study the breed and have had some wonderful mentors to guide us in selecting worthy dogs to rekindle our interest to produce sound, correct springers who will bring love, loyalty and that special springer pizzaz to their owners. We will mentor prospective buyers who are interested in showing our puppies.

Our current team have been consistent winners in the show ring though they all love nothing better than running the beaches in Bremer Bay.

FEATHERSPUN

Featherspun English springer spaniels

We got into springer spaniels when looking for a hunting dog that would also fit well in our busy family with small kids. Not to disappoint we find the springer full of energy when needed, focused and willing while also happy to kick back on the couch for a long snooze and cuddle.

STRAITSWILL

Straitswill Springer Spaniels is a small kennel located at Reekara, King Island.

The breeding of my girls initially came from Rachel Greaves of Wrangham Springer Spaniels. Over time, sires have included Glastonpark Teddy, Schulwey Barkley, Wrangham Big Wig and Wentloodge Rebel Yel. I only source top hunting Pedigree Dogs for my girls.

The combination of the sires with my girls has brought out their natural hunting ability which is my primary aim - to breed top hunting Springers. All my girls excel in the hunting of ducks and pheasants, which are the only game available for hunting on King Island.

They have all proven to be excellent mothers, they are loving with gentle natures and whenever I have a litter many children, including my grandchildren visit and play with the pups. The mothers have never shown any aggression towards unknown visitors to the pups.

My pups have also proven to be good pets. But you must be mindful, Springers need a lot of exercise, space to run, places to swim and things to generally excite their intelligence.

I kept a female from Pipers last litter, Lucy, just about to turn 1. Lucy came Pheasant Shooting with me on the June Long Weekend, and I was very impressed with her hunting ability. She is also very gentle, loves the grandchildren and often snuggles up with them on the couch.

MEACESCA

We discovered the joys of having an English Springer Spaniel in 2020, and now have two Springers that were bred locally in Gippsland from some of the best working dog lines in Australia.

We have previously bred Cocker Spaniels.
