We have been showing and breeding hounds since 1972. In 1988 we acquired our first Borzoi followed in 1989 by a Deerhound. Due to business commitments and time constraints with showing and breeding our Andalusians and Miniature Horses, we exhibit our dogs only sparingly. Despite this we have done well in the showring. In 1994 we imported frozen semen from Fernhill Deerhounds in Canada and, in 2006, a Deerhound from Thistleglen in the USA. All our dogs are housedogs and part of the family.

Mapleridge Deerhound Kennels was established in 1990 with our original foundation bitches comming from the renowned "Atlas Prefix". In the years since, we have been breeding quality sound Deerhounds who are expected to work and as such, we can watch the conformation and select our breeding Sires and Dams. We have a strong ethic belief that working lines show strong points of a breed and show up any faults that are otherwise hidden. Mapleridge Deerhounds have done well in the showring over the years and their wonderful temperments enhance their value as companions. We breed only from the best and will not tolerate bad hounds!

Even though we have only really shared our home with a Deerhound since early 2003, our interest in this ancient and elegant breed sprung from a family history with the breed dating back to 1960’s, and a familiarity with lines which have unfortunately been extinguished by time.
We have had dogs all our lives, initially as family pets, moving into the field and show-ring with gundog breeds,as well as training and competing in Obedience, Agility & Jumping, Tracking and Endurance.
