I fell in love with this breed 15 years ago when I was introduced by the lady who is responsible for bringing the first Portuguese Podengo to Australia. I have been breeding Podengo Small Smooth Haired for over 10 years. This versatile breed excels at pretty much anything they try. They are smart, sweet little dogs with a great sense of humour. They never really take anything too seriously & lighten even the darkest of days with their joyful antics. Alarves Podengos have been successful in the show ring all over Australia: Winning Best Of Breed at Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne Royal Shows for seven years in a row. Winning Best Of Breed at Sydney Royal with the largest entry of 17 Podengos and awarded Junior in the Hound Group at the 2017 Royal Queensland Show. Alarves Podengos are proud to have bred the only Podengo in Australia to have been awarded Best In Group (Group 1st) of the Hound Group and Runner Up to Best In Show (BIS 2nd). Alarves Podengos also compete successfully in other dogs sports such as Obedience, Agility, Scentwork, Lure Coursing & SprintDog (100m sprint), both here in Australia and in New Zealand.
