Glenstar kennels was established in 1978 with our Labradors, in 2010 our first Lagotto Gucci joined us from Australia, she was soon joined by Orsino and Tiziana. Over the years we have been determined to establish a wider gene pool in New Zealand and therefore have imported dogs from Italy, Finland and Australia. Glenstar is the home of New Zealands top winning Lagotto Romagnolo with numerous Best and Reserve In Show awards. We strive to breed healthy dogs with fantastic temperaments. All our breeding dogs are screened for Hip and Elbow dysplasia, patella subluxation, DNA tested for Juvinile epilepsy, Lagotto storage disease, PRA/cataracts and HUU. Our dogs have also have annual eye and heart clearances. Health testing within the breed is evolving as DNA testing becomes available. Our puppies are raised in the home and are well socialised and temperament assessed before going to their new homes. Lagotto bred by Glenstar can be found not only in NZ but internationally in loving family homes as pets, assistance dogs, truffle hunting, agility, scent work and the show ring.

The Lagotto Romagnolo is a small/medium curly coated gun dog originating from Italy. The breed can be traced back several hundred years and is the foundation dog to all water dogs such as Poodles, Portuguese Water Dogs, Golden Retrievers, Labradors, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling retrievers to name but a few. The breed is not well known in NZ and is often mistaken as a spoodle (gasp). Our dogs are raised on a beautiful life style block in the Wairarapa. We adhere to Dogs New Zealand Breeders Code of Conduct. We have health tests performed on our breeding stock as recommended by the New Zealand Lagotto Romagnolo Club. Because my passion is dog sports, breeding for temperament is of paramount importance to me. I am a trainer at my local dog club and compete in obedience and Rally O. We have been blessed with some beautiful Lagotto Romagnolo, with excellent temperament, to start with them in the show ring! I am so happy with what we’ve achieved in our first few years with this breed ( we also have WHW Terriers) And now we finally have our own litter of little curly puppies from our amazing foundation bitch ‘Callie’. Born on Christmas Eve 2024. Callie is 3 and has had an exceptional career, becoming an Australian champion at 9 months, grand champion at 2 years and is also the first Lagotto to attain both her A2O and C.I.B titles!! She was Best in Show at the Lagotto Romagnolo breed specialty show, Sydney Royal in 2023 and has also won several Best in Groups, runner up Best in groups and Class in show awards. But the most important thing is that she is an absolute delight and wins hearts wherever she goes! Puppies sire ‘Ziggy’ JWW '23, EUJW'23 Aust Ch Bombadee Lucky Strike (IMP POL) arrived from Europe at the end of 2023 and also has an amazing, friendly temperament and a coat curl to to die for! We are delighted to announce the anticipated arrival of Lagotto puppies from ‘Sara’ and 'Teddy'. We currently have a white male available offering him for sale at $2500. Here at Rustufarion we are committed to the health of our breeding dogs and understand the importance this has in raising genetically healthy puppies. Our lagottos have been screened for the known and genetically testable disorders evident in the Lagotto. Screening breeding animals prior to breeding will ensure these preventable disorders do not affect your puppy from Rustufarion. Further health checks of our breeding dogs includes screening for Hip Dysplasia. We do everything possible to produce puppies with sound temperaments and confirmation and this has been factored into the selection of a suitable sire for these puppies. For this reason we also raise new born puppies in our home where they receive constant supervision, attention and interaction within a busy home. During the first weeks we focus on raising our puppies within a warm environment and commence neurological stimulation. Our puppies are pedigree registered with Dogs NSW as well as being vet checked and vaccinated, microchipped and come with 6 weeks of puppy health insurance. Three of our lovely lagotto ladies decided to bless us with puppies before the end of the year and we have two puppies to find great homes for, both adorable little boys. Zelda's baby is cream with apricot markings. He's a sweet boy who loves to cuddle. Winnie's boy is shiny white with brown patches. He's a sturdy little thing with an outgoing personality.
