NEWS FLASH Kylie Ritter and I have helped Janet campaign Solykke Bikini Chocolatini (Marbella) who, in just 2 months of having been shown in Queensland, and much to our delight has just become the first Spanish water dog in Queensland to be officially titled as Australian Champion. I have bred and shown Dogs since 1994. I have been given the opportunity to own and compaign my first Spanish Water Dog -Solykke Toledo Real- from Janet Cameron who imported a male and female from Zorrazo kennels in Croatia in 2019, after having the pleasure of first seeing the breed in the World Dog Show in Milan,Italy in 2015. Kylie Ritter and I are also helping Janet to compaign Solykke Bikini Chocolatini. As we see it today, the breed is described as athletic, focused, natural and rustic. The history and working aspect of the Spanish Water Dog should be taken into account, particularly in the areas of breeding and showing.

The Spanish Water Dog breed dates back several hundred years and has its origins most likely in Turkey from where it was imported into Spain as a general purpose sheepdog and guard. It is also used sometimes as a gundog, and is skilled at retrieval from water. The SWD has strong genetic links to other ancient water breeds such as the Portuguese Water Dog, the French Barbet and the Irish Water Spaniel. The SWD is diligent, loyal, affectionate, and intelligent. They have very strong natural herding and guarding instincts, leading them to become the self-appointed guardians of their homes. SWDs thrive on work and play. Their athleticism and extremely hard working nature leads them to excel at any number of tasks. They can be wary with strangers, early and continuing socialization with a variety of people and other animals is essential for a well-adjusted, social dog.Good socialization at an early age greatly helps them cohabit with small children. So its important before bringing an SWD into your home you get to know the breed, meeting the parents and seeing how they interact in their own home. We have a lovely red boy looking for his new home, green collar boy will unfortunately grow bigger than the breed standard asks for so he is looking a pet home $2000 He is a robust, healthy boy who love his people, he loves a cuddle. He's a quick learning and is learning some lovely leash manners and has mastered sit!!
