The Spanish Water Dog is a medium sized, faithful, curly coated (natural ' Shirley Temple ' curls which when long form into cords), active breed - known for its all round working ability, especially in water. Enjoys his owner's company and prefers to be close to his human family - can be reserved, in particular with strangers. They are bright and require a stimulating environment to bring out the best in them.

Spanish water dogs are loyal and protective. Continuous socialization at an early age and into adulthood, establishes a well-balanced companion.

This breed is flexible and versatile in its nature and abilities, they excel at most disciplines as they are intelligent and trainable.

SWD can be trained for showing, as a therapy dog, guard dog, herding, scent work, gun dog, fly ball and obedience or just a companion/family pet.

They are affectionate, love being close to their human family, they enjoy their daily walks, or sitting by your feet in the lounge room. We have found that they are only as energetic as their owners are.

SWD is a medium sized dog and has a medium curly coat that forms into cords in full coat. We recommend monthly baths, towel drying, no brushing, shaving off their coats during warmer months unless they are being shown.

They really are a unique breed of dog!
