I began breeding and showing english cocker spaniels, before moving to english springers which I have had since the eighties. Birchlands is a family kennel where the dogs are always pets first; litters have been few and far between to maintain a strong bitch line and produce quality stock. Today there are Birchlands springers being shown and winning in NZ and Australia.

Started in 2019 we are small family kennel located in the Horowhenua who show & compete in Rally-O with our Springers. Our ethos is breeding quality, sound, healthy, and happy English Springer Spaniels for the family home, show ring, and dog sports. Full Health & DNA testing is done along with hips & elbows. As a family with a deep love & passion for the breed, our dog's health and wellbeing come first...making profit and producing puppies to 'orders' or demand is not in our beliefs. Any breeding is done after thorough planning and thought to better the breed, we do not breed every year. We only breed when we need to continue our lines. Our last litter was in 2013. Dogs are DNA & Clinically Eye tested, Glaucoma,Fucosidosis tested and hip scored and we follow the UK ethical guidelines for breeders. Straitswill Aami’s delivered 7 healthy pups (4 boys & 3 girls) on 4/11/24. The sire is Wrangham Time and Again (Banjo). It is a great combination. Aami is proving the be the best 1st time mum. The pups are thriving. There are still a couple of boys available and one female (someone changed their mind). You will notice from some of the photos that there are some tricolour ones, which would come from their great, great grandmother Tussockridge Bhreac, my first bitch and the best thing I ever did was to purchase her from Wrangham English Springer Spaniels. If they turn out 1/2 as good as Bhreac, you won’t be disappointed. As working Springer Spaniels, they are breed for hunting purposes, but my pups are also in demand as pets. They have the best demeanour, gentle, loving and generally fun. But they need exercise and places to swim. They are also of a medium size, which makes them good as pets or for hunting. Easier to travel under electric fences. The pups are now 5 weeks old, so will shortly be available. The price of the pup includes, 1st vaccination, vet check, microchipping (this will be completed next week), worming, full Pedigree Papers and the pups will be freighted to either Essendon, Moorabbin, Wynyard or Launceston Airports. We are proud to announce an outstanding litter of working Springer Spaniel pups out of Wentlooge Wombina and Bramblebrook Gryffudd. These pups come from outstanding lines and should be great for detection,field or sports. We have been breeding working Springers for 20 years and many of our dogs are working in Law enforcement, conservation and field work. We are thrilled to announce we have puppies at Penita. Puppies were born 10th October. This is a repeat of our last litter which produced lovely puppies from Jacko and queenie. we have one male and one female liver and white puppy available. Photos available on request. Both parents have been health tested for the appropriate diseases in English Springer Spaniels. Puppies will be registered with the Tasmanian Canine Association, and will come vaccinated (1st vaccination), microchipped , wormed and vet checked. We currently have a 17 month old liver and white female looking for her forever home. Our dogs are raised with us in our home as part of the family to ensure the best start to life.
