AmigoReal is an Accredited Long Coat Chihuahua kennel in Christchurch, New Zealand. Taking into account the origin of the Chihuahua breed, “Amigo Real” translates as “Royal Friend” in Spanish. As an Accredited Breeder, we health test for Eyes, Heart and Patellas, which is mandatory for this breed under the Accredited Breeders scheme. At AmigoReal, we go one step further and are currently the only breeder for Chihuahuas in New Zealand testing for Hip Dysplasia, Legg-Calve-Perthes, and Thyroid (T4), which we started doing in 2020. We also DNA test our Chihuahuas with Embark, who check for 206+ Genetic Conditions: 5 Breed-Relevant Genetic Conditions and 201+ Additional Genetic Conditions which includes Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD). As you can see, we stop at nothing to ensure that our Chihuahuas meet only the highest standards.
