I have been involved with dogs for my whole life. Having grown up in a greyhound racing family I was smitten by dogs from a very young age. In my teen years I dabbled in some obedience training with my pets.
In 1991 I became involved in conformation showing helping out with my partner’s Bichon Frise and becoming close with many Afghan exhibitors and their dogs. My first show dog ‘Pepsi’, a boxer puppy didn’t go down too well living in the city and had to go back to the breeder after getting covered in tiling glue one day.
I was given a few terriers in partnership over the next few years and had a lot of fun. My first, a black and white Smooth Fox terrier was a lot of fun and we even won Best in Show at a British Terrier Club of NSW show one year. Keeping with the Fox Terriers, I tried my hand at a couple of Wire Fox Terriers and enjoyed the hand stripping and had fun with them. My last terriers were Soft Coated Wheaten’s with which I did fairly well and enjoyed immensly. I was sad to see them all go back to the breeders but enjoyed my time with them.
After the terriers, I was given a Shih Tzu to show in partnership and was surprised at how easily I picked up the grooming and presentation. We have shown and bred many Shih Tzu of our own over the years and have done extremely well with them. We have been awarded many Best In Shows with our dogs and imported four dogs from Canada. We are extremely proud that one of our imported dogs is the top Specialty Best In Show winner in Australia with 10 specialty Best in Shows.
In 2016 after wanting to get back into terriers for a while, I was graciously given a Border Terrier in partnership by Chanpema Kennels to show. Ted ‘Theodore’ Logan aka CH Chanpema Excellent Adventure (AI) EIC SE was my next adventure in showing and embraced the sporting side of dog showing.
My involvement in the Confirmation scene is not just showing. For many years I have been involved in helping run several clubs. I was on committee of County of Cumberland Kennel Association for many years, Secretary of the Shih Tzu Club of NSW briefly, committee for the Border Terrier Club of NSW and have been International Judges Coordinator (and a sojourn as Secretary and President) of North of the Harbour Kennel Club for several years now. I have been a Junior Handler judge for many years, a qualified show steward and successfully passed ANKC group 7 (Non-Sporting) judging in 2018. In 2019 I passed as an Earthdog judge for all levels. I am currently undertaking training for ANKC group 1 (Toys).
