The Lagotto Romagnolo, also known as the Italian truffle dog, is a rare ancient breed and is considered the foundation breed to many of today's hunting dog breeds. The Lagotto is a non-shedding, active medium-sized breed. They are very loyal to their owner/s, extremely smart, very social, and loving which makes them the perfect family companion.

Our success as a registered breeder has been with the support of our mentor breeder Duoforza and world leaders in canine reproduction Monash Veterinary Clinic headed by Dr Stuart Mason.

Our puppies are raised in a family environment and are well socialised.

The Parity team is a mother/daughter collaboration, and we are based in South Australia. We enjoy our lovely dogs as members of the family. Our lines are based on dogs we have imported from kennels overseas. We are always grateful for co-operation with other breeders here in Australia too, it's great to work together toward improvement of the breed.

Those dogs that are old enough have been hip and elbow scored with excellent results. Patellas are checked. We use MyDogDNA genetic testing for every dog used in breeding to ensure that our dogs are clear of any known issues within our breed. Temperament is of utmost importance.

The Lagotto Romagnolo is an intelligent working breed and, despite their cuddly look, they can be quite high energy and definitely require training and boundaries. As with any breed, remember to do your research to ensure a good, long-term match.

We do not keep a waiting list, but suggest that those interested keep an eye on our website Available page and/or our Facebook page. When there is a happy announcement to be made, it will be found in those places and we will start to accept expressions of interest via email.

Glenstar kennels was established in 1978 with our Labradors, in 2010 our first Lagotto Gucci joined us from Australia, she was soon joined by Orsino and Tiziana. Over the years we have been determined to establish a wider gene pool in New Zealand and therefore have imported dogs from Italy, Finland and Australia. Glenstar is the home of New Zealands top winning Lagotto Romagnolo with numerous Best and Reserve In Show awards.

We strive to breed healthy dogs with fantastic temperaments. All our breeding dogs are screened for Hip and Elbow dysplasia, patella subluxation, DNA tested for Juvinile epilepsy, Lagotto storage disease, PRA/cataracts and HUU. Our dogs have also have annual eye and heart clearances. Health testing within the breed is evolving as DNA testing becomes available. Our puppies are raised in the home and are well socialised and temperament assessed before going to their new homes.

Lagotto bred by Glenstar can be found not only in NZ but internationally in loving family homes as pets, assistance dogs, truffle hunting, agility, scent work and the show ring.

Expression of interest for litter due in mid July.

Both parents are Australian Champions that are health tested both in DNA and hip and elbows. This is both their first litters so we are super excited to see what they produce.
Puppies are raised in a busy home environment and handled daily by children who are extensively involved in the raising process.
Both parents might be show dogs but they are also very loved family pets, involved in most aspects of our lives from helping with teach puppy preschool demonstrations to sleeping on the kids beds at night. Both parents are a great mixture of active and snuggles, they love a good run out the bush and swim in the river but happy to sit and sleep through a movie while getting bulk pats.

After a puppy drought lasting more than twelve months, we are finally once again enjoying the pitter patter of teeny lagotto paws. Dear Enquirer,

LagottoMoon is excited to announce a litter of 9 puppies. The puppies are being raised in my home in the Adelaide Hills. I have just shy of two acres with 3 children, 4 Lagottos, 1 cat, chooks and bees. I am a huge advocate for this amazing breed.

At 6 weeks (26th July) they will be vet checked, microchipped, vaccinated etc.

Stud Bassi, and Dame Flossie are DNA tested diseases/disorders including all known to the Lagotto Romagnolo (LSD,HUU,JE), excellent Hip and Elbow scores and the dame (Flossie) is eye tested. Above all, both dogs have lovely temperaments. I was very excited to have the opportunity to use Bassi as a stud a second time, and 3year old Flossie is being an absolute star Mum. She is going amazing feeding and caring for 9 with her first litter.
