Name: Gigi
Age: 1 years 6 months.
Sex: Female
Good with Kids?: Over 8
Good with Dogs?: YES
Good with Cats?: Unknown

Gigi, our bouncy little kangaroo, well not really, she is a beautiful 18-month-old German Shepherd who is looking for her forever home.

Gigi is the happiest, most adorable little girl you will ever meet, this girl is full of life and is always ready to bounce into her next adventure. Gigi is a little pocket rocket that can often be seen doing zoomies with her tongue hanging out the side or with a big smile on her face, this girl oozes personality and her main aim in life is to have fun!

Gigi is very friendly; she will jump up to meet new people and doesn’t quite realise her own strength when saying hello. Gigi is very affectionate; she enjoys a pat and a cuddle and will lean into you for more before giving you sneaky kisses all over. Gigi needs to learn to keep all 4 paws on the floor, she will need reminding of her manners, and consistent rules and boundaries to help her learn how to appropriately greet people. Gigi is not suited to living with anyone who may be frail, she would also knock over small children and is best suited to a home where everyone is over the age of 8.

Gigi has plenty of energy to burn and can be quite boisterous at times, she will need daily exercise, but more importantly she will need mental stimulation through enrichment games, puzzle solving, and small training sessions. Gigi is food motivated and knows her basic commands, she needs to work on her focus under distractions and her impulse control with her new owners, Gigi is strong on lead and will need to work on her leash manners.

Gigi has been diagnosed with Gracilis Contracture – a rare condition found in German Shepherds where the muscles in the back legs are deformed due to previous trauma or overactivity. As a result, Gigi has a very strange gait, her legs criss-cross over each other and she can be a little unstable on her feet. Luckily this condition is pain-free and therefore Gigi does not let this stop her in the slightest. There is no treatment for Gracilis Contracture, Gigi can live a fairly normal, albeit wobbly life.

Gigi LOVES other dogs, she likes to play and play hard, bopping other dogs with her paws or bouncing off and around them to entice them to play. Gigi would love to live with a male dog in her new home, the other dog would need to be very tolerant, confident enough to give Gigi boundaries and also up for a rough play from time to time to match Gigi’s play style. Gigi would also be happy as the only dog in her new home but would need someone home often if this is the case.

Gigi has not been tested with cats or other small pets, she is not an aggressive dog, but very boisterous and a typical teenager, we think she would be very rough with small pets initially.

Name: Ned
Age: 2 years 3 months
Sex: Male
Good with Kids?: Over 10
Good with Dogs?: Inexperienced
Good with Cats?: Unknown

Ned is a friendly, goofy boy that loves everyone he meets, Ned gets very over stimulated when he first meets new people and will jump up constantly out of excitement. Ned doesn’t have much in the way of manners and will need to build up his impulse control and have consistent boundaries in his new home.

Ned may accidentally knock over children and will jump on them during playtime, Ned is best suited to a home without small children and will need to be taught manners and managed around visiting children so that he doesn’t accidentally hurt them, Ned is looking for a home where everyone is over the age of 10 years old.

Ned is very much a big puppy that hasn’t had enough training or time put into him, Ned needs an experienced owner that is committed to training and who won’t be scared off by a boisterous young dog. Ned responds well to treats and is very clever and keen to learn, he would thrive with an owner that has strong leadership and handling skills that can motivate and engage Ned to keep his focus and teach him the necessary skills he needs to be a good citizen. Ned is not suited to a first-time dog owner.

Ned loves attention and affection from those he loves most, a big cuddler, this boy wants to be wherever his humans are, Ned is ok being left alone, however when his humans are home, he would love to be inside with them, following you around the house and snuggling up with you wherever he is allowed to.

Ned loves to play, whilst he is interested in toys, he loves to play chasey, human engagement is what he thrives on. Ned has lots of built-up energy, he hasn’t been walked much lately and finds himself bored and without an outlet to release his energy. Ned will need to live an active lifestyle, including daily exercise; but most importantly, Ned will need to be provided with mental stimulation through enrichment games or puzzles and training sessions to keep his quick mind working.

Ned is very inexperienced with other dogs; he hasn’t met many in recent times. During his assessment, Ned showed little manners with another dog and was very boisterous and rude in his attempts to interact. Ned has not shown aggression, but is totally inexperienced, and if not managed and taught manners around others, he may find himself getting into trouble. Ned will need to take introductions and integration with other dogs slowly, he will need further training in controlled environments so that he can work up to this.
Ned has not been tested with cats or other small animals.

This gorgeous goofball has been left to his own devices, whilst he needs to learn manners and will require training in his new home, Ned has a wonderful temperament and is as friendly and as loyal as they come.

Name: Tori
Age: 3 years 10 months.
Sex: Female
Good with Kids?: No
Good with Dogs?: Yes
Good with Cats?: Yes

Tori is 3.5 years old and is looking for a very special family that can help her feel safe and loved.
Tori’s early puppyhood was quite traumatic; she has been in foster care for a long time but is still a very nervous and shy dog.

Tori is very shy when meeting new people, she must get to know you on her own terms, her instinct is to run away and hide in the home when she is feeling unsure. Tori will need a quiet home without too many visitors so that she can feel safe and come out of her shell in her own time. Tori is not suited to a home with children, they scare her, and she would rather avoid them.

Tori has been well socialised with other animals and gets along well with other dogs. Tori’s confidence seems to skyrocket when she has a confident doggy friend around her, she loves to play and chase and loves meeting new dogs out on walks. Tori’s new home must have an existing male dog, this will help Tori to settle in and bring her confidence out, helping her to bond with her new family.

Tori has grown up with cats and for the most-part gets along well with them, she could go to a home with an existing cat provided slow introductions were undertaken.

Tori has always been an inside dog; she can be a bit of a princess and loves to snuggle up on the couch with her humans. Once Tori feels comfortable with those around her, she is a very goofy, loving, and affectionate little girl that gives lots of kisses and cuddles.

Tori is currently on medication to help manage her anxiety, she needs an understanding home that is committed to her ongoing treatment plan to ensure she is a happy and healthy dog. Tori thrives with enrichment to keep her busy and will need plenty of stimulation in her new home to ensure she doesn’t make her own fun.
Tori knows her basic commands and walks beautifully on lead, she is also crate trained.

This beautiful little girl is terrified of the world, loud noises, sudden movements and new people all scare her, yet we have seen how sweet and affectionate she can be when she feels safe and loved. The right home for Tori is and understanding and patient home that will let her do things at her own pace, she needs to be given plenty of space and time to come out of her shell.

Name: Sammy
Age: 1 years 9 months.
Sex: Male
Good with Kids?: No
Good with Dogs?: No
Good with Cats?: Selective

Sammy is a loving boy that is craving human attention and affection, this boy thrives off of praise and pats, his eyes light up when you tell him he is a good boy, all he wants to do is please and be with his people. Sammy was always an inside dog, now that he has been shut outside, he isn’t coping; Sammy must be allowed to come inside in his new home, he has been crate trained and is toilet trained.

Sammy is still a big puppy and, doesn’t realise his size. At times, Sammy can lack impulse control and can become jumpy and mouthy, particularly when overstimulated and excited. Sammy needs to be given clear boundaries in his new home, a chaotic home with no routine would exacerbate Sammy’s lack of manners; a calm, predictable home where everyone is over the age of 12 would be most suitable for Sammy.

Sammy has not had much experience with the outside world, he has missed out on socialisation and exposure and will need a handler who can provide strong leadership to introduce Sammy to the world around him. Sammy is lacking confidence and will need to take things slow; his initial response is to bark at things he is unsure of and will make a bit of a scene on lead. Sammy needs a breed experienced owner that has experience with reactive dogs.

Sammy will need a firm but fair approach to his training, consistent feedback, fun and frequent sessions will help Sammy become the good boy we know he can be. Sammy would benefit from working 1 on 1 with a trainer so that he and his new family can learn together.

Sammy is very unsure of other dogs; he has not been on a walk in quite some time and is nervous and lacking in confidence whenever he sees another dog. Sammy panics and will bark and lunge in sheer frustration and from being overwhelmed. Sammy will need to work up to controlling his impulses and feeling confident and secure enough not to react to other dogs, this is a long-term goal for Sammy, and will not be a quick fix. For now, Sammy is not suited to a home with another dog.

Sammy has previously lived with a cat, when given the opportunity he will chase a cat that runs, however may be able to be introduced to a confident, dog-savvy cat in his new home over time. Separation and slow integration will be necessary to ensure that everyone is comfortable and safe.

Sammy is currently experiencing some skin and gut issues that are believed to be allergy based. Due to this, he is not in great condition and will need a medical workup once in his new home. GSRV are committed to helping Sammy get his allergies under control and so that he can reach a good, healthy condition, we will be supporting his new family whilst we investigate how best to help Sammy moving forward.
