Appearance

The Finnish Spitz is very fox like with thick double coat to keep out the cold, small erect ears and curly tail.

History

The Finnish Spitz are beleived to have originally been watchdogs for tribes crossing Eurasia and were developed in to hunting dogs. They were known as hunt pointers as they would lead out from the hunter find the bird and bark, if the bird moved they would follow it until it settled then recommence their barking. They are the National do of Finland.

Temperament

The Finnish Spitz is a lively active dog, alert and playful. It is suspicious of strangers, good with children and generally good with other pets.

Care / Grooming

Being a hunting breed it is a very active dog so requires regular exercise. Because of it's hunting instincts it should only be off lead in safe area's. Being double coated it will require regular grooming every couple of days. It will shed coat twice a year, during this time it will need to be groomed daily. It has very little doggy odor due to not having a oil coat and is a very clean breed.

Health

The Finnish Spitz is a very health breed with no major health concerns.
