Curly Coated Retriever males can weigh up to 45 kilos, and females up to 35 kilos.
They need a moderate level of exercise so a daily walk should keep them happy and healthy.
These are very low-maintenance dogs, only needing to have their ears and tail trimmed about every three months. Altogether this should take about 15 minutes.
Curly Coated Retrievers participate in Conformation (dog shows), Retrieving, Agility and Obedience.
Be sure your puppy comes with ANKC registration paper and pedigree. See the links to each state registrar.
Be sure the breeder offers guarantees and after sales service.
Both parents should be hip scored and eye checked. Hip scores should be as close as possible or below the breed average.
If possible, view both parents. Look for puppies that are clean, alert and not nervous.
This breed can have hereditary bald patterning, which appears from about 14 months of age. Check to see if either parent shows signs of permanent balding. But also be aware that mothers often drop their coat after having a litter and may look "tatty". This is not the same as permanent, pattern balding.
