It is an elegant little dog with a lovely glossy black coat with distinctive tan markings which should be a rich tan colour.
Height is around 10 to 12 ins with a stocky build without appearing coarse. They must have upright candle flame shaped ears which is the distinctive mark of this dog.
The English Toy Terrier originated in England where it was bred to kill rats in the stables, it has been around since the 17 century
Outgoing and friendly little dogs which are easy to train and do not bark unless someone is there.
Very little grooming is needed with this short coat which they do not shed very often. A quick wipe over with a damp cloth is enough to keep the coat looking nice. Nails do need to be trimmed.
They do need companionship and a walk at least three times a week but do very well in just a back yard situation as long as they are part of the family as they are such friendly little dogs.
They are a very healthy little dog which rarely gets sick with no serious breed defects but too much inbreeding like lots of dogs can produce heart problems.
