We have been breeding chows for over three decades.

Our emphasis is on developing chows with the best temperament to be companion pets. That being said, many of our pups are shown in conformation. Our chow pups are reared in-house and have the best possible start. The dam and sire have been health checked by the Reproductive Veterinary practice that attends to the health of our chows.

At 4 weeks, new chow parents are invited to visit our happy canine family and a pup is allocated.

Pups are vet-checked, vaccinated, microchipped.
From 8 weeks old, pups go to their forever homes.

I am situated in Queensland on a lovely acreage property where my chows have the ability to have freedom to run and play
Each puppy is given abundance of love and attention to ensure they are well adjusted and of good temperament
puppies are bought up in the home with the family they also have plenty of cont
act with my five grandchildren so that they are all well acquainted with children
Great care is taken to make sure that each puppy is well adjusted and ready for a lifetime of adventure with their new family
All breeding stock is DNA tested
Hips and elbow scores are available to view
Puppies are wormed and have vaccinations and health check before leaving for their new homes
Puppy play dates are recommended and accommodated so that each puppy can get to know their family before lea

After breeding and showing Labradors we have added a new dimension to out passion. The Chow Chow. Polar opposite to a labrador this stunning breed has captured my heart. l am lucky enough to be trusted with a Moonacre Chow Chow and have some wonderful mentors who know the breed and also show their dogs. We are excited to see where this new venture takes us.

Been with this breed for almost 30 years and with smoothies since 1993. Just imported a black smooth female from Finland out of well-known and awarded Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian, Dutch, German and English bloodlines. She is officially health tested (hips, elbows, knees, eyes + no entropion). Finished her title in Finland being one one of the youngest smooth BOB winning females there. All the possible colours in her 5 gen pedigree. 58 out of 62 chows in her pedigree have hip scores of which 55 have healthy hips + several of them have also their elbows, knees and eyes officially tested. We also have two smooth males (cream and black) available at stud. It’ll be soon time to start our next import project :)

Chowleigh Kennels was established in 1972 by Bob and Merle Williams and today is also helped by daughters Narelle and Claire. Chowleigh Kennels have imported 19 Chow Chows over the years from both the UK and USA. They are currently working with lines from both countries which have allowed them to produce quality examples of the breed and the pedigrees they work with and produce can be found in many foundation dogs of kennels around the country and in NZ. Consistently producing Best In Show and Group winners, Chowleigh Kennels ultimately aim to produce puppies which not only look great on the outside but are also healthy and sound. They have been hip scoring their breeding dogs since 1982 and elbow scoring since 1994 and hope to see the breed continue on its way to a long and healthy future. Merle and Narelle welcome enquiries for puppies, stud services or just general information on the breed.
