Appearance
The Parson Russell Terrier is a small athletic dog slightly taller than it is long. The colour is mainly white with black, tan or brown markings. The skull is flat between the drop ears, tapering to a black nose, with dark eyes and a keen expression. He has a slim body and small chest which is easily spanned by a man's hand. It has a double coat with a dense undercoat and smooth or broken weatherproof outer coat.
History
The Parson Russell Terrier was developed in the mid 1800's by the Parson John Russell who was a keen fox hunter, and wanted to develop a long legged terrier that could keep up with the hounds. He would hunt the fox by digging it out of it's den for the hounds to chase.
Temperament
The Parson Russell Terrier is an active devoted dog, it gets on well with children but may chase the cat. It is a true hunter so should always be on a lead except in a safe area. They make an ideal companion for an active person looking for a dog to walk with daily.
Care / Grooming
Coat care is easy with regular brush and combing to remove the dirt and dead hair, only wash when necessary. Regular exersise is important and some training will be required as they are intelligent but willful and determined.
Health
They are healthy breed but watch for luxating patellars, leg perthes and lens luxation.
