Appearance
Solidly built, rough coated, whiskery monkey like expression with Very expressive eyes – quasi human expression.
History
Originally used in the stables for ratting and a ‘street’ dog, also companion to Brussels horse drawn taxi.
Temperament
Very affectionate, although with some terrier character, can be very needy of their human companionship.
Care / Grooming
A trip to the groomer’s every 8 weeks for clippering or if a show dog, then regular stripping out the longest hairs weekly.
A weekly bath.
They also come in smooth coat – which only needs the weekly bath.
Health
There are a number of genetic disorders in griffons including but not limited to;
Cataracts (early onset)
Hydrocephalus
Patellar luxation
hip dysplasia
PRA (progressive retinal atrophy)
Syringomyelia (not enough room inside the brain for proper function)
Ideally, puppy purchasers would request to see the documented proof of health testing relating to the above disorders, for each parent of any possible purchase.
