Appearance
The Wire Fox Terrier is a short backed and square proportioned dog with a thick muscular neck. It has a flat tapering narrow skull and ears that fold forward and a tail set up on top of the dog. The dense wiry coat is mainly white with black or tan markings and has a soft undercoat.
History
The Wire Fox Terrier is one of the oldest terriers having been used since the 1800's to hunt fox and for ratting. The Wire was bred for use in rough country, its coat being less vulnerable to damage than the Sooth.
Temperament
The Wire lives up to its name it is a real live wire always up for a game or adventure. It can be mischievous and independent and may dig and bark if bored. The Wire is a willful dog and needs firm training from an early age.
Care / Grooming
The Wire's coat needs regular combing two or three times a week plus clipping every three months, bath only when necessary.
Health
There are no major problems but some minor concerns are lens luxation, cataracts, legg-perthes and luxating patellars.
