Appearance
The Miniature Bull Terrier is exactly the same as it’s larger cousin the Bull Terrier. The only difference is the size, Miniature’s should stand at no more than 14 inches at the shoulder. The dog should have maximum substance for its size. They come in white’s and coloured.
History
The Miniature Bull Terrier shares the same history as the Bull Terrier, originally bred as a dog for the fighting pit and a rat catcher. Throughout the history of the Bull Terrier there have always been the smaller dogs, fanciers of the smaller version of the breed decided to take this a step further and created the Miniature Bull terrier, this version is now a recognized breed on it’s own. Today they are a successful breed and are popular as pets and showdogs.
Temperament
As with the Bull Terrier they are very good with children and people on a whole, however they do have to be watched with small children as they are boisterous and tend to think everyone is as tough as they are. They are very intelligent but stubborn, they will test your patience with their antics, some people have likened them to having a permanent 2 year old around.
If socialized correctly they will get along with other dogs and cats, however 2 males should not be kept together.
Care / Grooming
Their short coat requires a weekly brushing, they tend to get calluses on elbows and hocks, so if you make rubbing some cream into these places a part of their weekly grooming ritual it should alleviate the problem. Zinc cream on the nose and ears will prevent sunburn, some Miniatures like to sunbathe on their back so the zinc should be applied to the exposed underside also.
Health
Generally a healthy dog, they do however share some problems with other pedigree dogs, ask the breed club or breeder for information on the specific problems of this breed. If you are thinking of acquiring a Miniature Bull Terrier ask to see the parents and ask all the questions you can think of, a reputable breeder will answer all your questions.
