First and foremost the English setter is an aristocratic and noble breed, showing elegance and balance in a top show specimen. Its white background covering with highly attractive spotting called belton makes it a unique dog. The English Setter comes in 5 colours: - Blue Belton (white with black spots), Orange Belton (white with brown spots), Lemon Belton (white with pale brown spots), TriColour (white with predominantly black spots but with brown spots on the face and front feet and hocks) Liver belton (white with Liver coloured spots).
The English Setter was trained as a bird dog in England approximately 500 years ago and was used to point and flush out game birds.
The breed is intensely friendly and good natured. Excellent with children. They adore company of any kind, are extremely biddable and tractable by nature.
They require a moderate amount of grooming to keep their coat free from knots and snarls.A weekly brushing and combing is necessary to maintain a health coat. Pets require a bath at least once per month to keep them clean.
This breed is generally a healthy breed with very few know problems. Responsible breeders hip score all prospective parents prior to breeding to ascertain their suitableness for parenthood and should have hip scores available for viewing to puppy buyers.
